4 Warning Signs Your Company’s Wastewater System Is In Trouble
So what do these symptoms mean? Trouble!
Like any piece of equipment, your wastewater discharge system needs regular checkups. Failing to do so can set you up for costly troubles – including regulatory compliance fines.
- Stinks: Most likely means the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas, usually caused by a buildup of organic material in your system. It can be a health hazard to employees, and can cause respiratory irritation, headaches, nausea, and dizziness.
- Sitting idle: From matter buildup and clogged pipes to damaged filters and failing mechanical components, idle equipment is at much higher risk of malfunctioning.
- Skipping a pH Test: California State laws require that local Water Board agencies monitor and limit the levels of industrial wastewater contaminants a facility is allowed to discharge into sewers and waterways. pH tests assess whether your wastewater falls within an approved range. pH 6-10. Failure to comply can result in costly fines.
- No Wastewater Pre-Treatment System: Any industrial wastewater – including wash water from equipment washing – can not go into a storm sewer, ditch, or the ground. “Pretreatment” means the treatment of wastewater to remove harmful materials, allowing water to be recycled and/or safely discharged.
